Since Melette was not available to join us for the show, Diva and I discussed several different topics, beginning with the commencement of the Winter Olympic Games in Sochi, Russia. The games, which started this week, have already generated controversy because of the response of the United States to anti-gay legislation in Russia and terrorist threats from nearby Chechnya.
Vanity Fair has come under fire in recent years for the lack of diversity of its Hollywood Issue. This year’s issue featured several actors of African descent on the cover. A lot of people are commending the publication, but I think the work of the actors featured by far speaks for itself. Not that it hasn’t in the past, but maybe Vanity Fair was asleep at the wheel or something.
Last, but definitely, not least, we looked at an extra clip from Saturday Night Live, 28 Reasons. Diva was particularly offended by the portrayal, but I think if nothing else, it is consistent. I don’t know how I feel about the fact that new cast member Sasheer Zamata was relegated to singing hooks, but take a peek.
